About us

The Centre for Museum Studies (CDM) is based at the Department of diche_roma_treEducation – Roma Tre University and was set up in 1994 with the aim of encouraging a more targeted use of museum heritage in Italy, especially for educational purposes. Therefore, the Centre has always developed research in the field of museum education, with a specific focus on visitors’ needs and expectations looking for a match with each museum offer.

CDM is institutional member of the Committee for Education and Cultural Action (CECA) of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) (since November 2011).

The Centre has worked on joint projects with over fifty Italian museums for studies on museum visitors’ profile and on the relationship between education and heritage fruition. It has also carried out projects for designing educational programmes in cooperation with many international institutions.


Prof. Antonella Poce is the Head of the Centre for Museum Studies since 2017.
Antonella Poce is Associate Professor in Experimental Pedagogy at the University Roma Tre – Department of Education, where she teaches ” Writing Methodologies and Techniques in Education “, ” Experimental Pedagogy and scholastic assessment “, ” Research Methodology in Education “ and  Experimentalism, Museum, Reading “. After her PhD in “Innovation and evaluation of educational systems”, she obtained a post-doc scholarship to carry out research work on the evaluation of e-learning models in university teaching and learning. Her research concerns innovative teaching practices in higher education at national and international level. In 2008, she was awarded as New Researcher of the year by AEA-Europe (Association for Educational Assessment). She is a member of the EDEN – European Distance and E-Learning Network Network (since 2009) and elected member of the EDEN – NAP (Network of Academics and Professionals) Steering Committee (since 2014). She has been elected Chair of NAP SC in 2017 and she is EDEN Executive Committee member since then. She has been local unit head for several Erasmus plus projects: DICHE – Digital Innovation in Cultural and Heritage Education in the light of 21st Century Learning (2015/2017), coordinator: Marnix Academie, Utrecht (NL), EURODUALE – European Cooperative Framework for Dual Learning, coordinator: Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia;  CRITHINKEDU-Critical Thinking across Higher Education Curricula (2016/2019), coordinator:  niversidade De Trás-Os-Montes e Alto Douro (P); OPEN VM – Open Virtual Mobility (2017/2019), coordinator:  Beuth University (DE); DigiCulture (Improving the Digital Competences and Social Inclusion of Adults in Creative Industries, 2018-2021), coordinator:  Politehnica University of Timisoara. She is member of ICOM (International Council of Museums) –CECA (Committee for Education and Cultural Action) (since 2006). She coordinated 4 departmental projects, and she she chairs the two year post graduate course “Advanced Studies in Museum Education” (120 ECTS) and the one year post graduate course “Museum Education” (60 ECTS).
